Hudson Valley No BESS Protest!

  • 1061 Development Court Kingston, New York, 12401 United States (map)

πŸ“’ HURLEY β€’ TOWN OF ULSTER β€’ KINGSTON β€’ SAUGERTIES β€’ GARDINER β€” STAND TOGETHER.

On Saturday, September 19 at 11 AM, residents from across the Hudson Valley will come together peacefully to send a clear message:

OUR COMMUNITIES DESERVE A VOICE IN WHERE MASSIVE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE FACILITIES ARE BUILT.

We will be gathering during Assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha's community shredding event to make sure our elected representative hears directly from the people she represents.

Our community has been fighting for responsible siting, public safety, local control, transparency, and respecting the people who actually have to live next to these facilities.

In September 2025, before the Town of Ulster had completed its environmental review of Terra-Gen's proposed 250 MW battery energy storage facility, Assemblymember Shrestha and Senator Michelle Hinchey issued a joint statement titled β€œFind No Safety Flags on Proposed Energy Storage Project in the Town of Ulster.” Shrestha stated that her office had performed its due diligence and that the short answer to whether the project presented safety risks people should worry about was β€œno.”

Many residents believed that conclusion came far too early.

Since then, our community has spent countless hours attending meetings, researching battery incidents, submitting comments, participating in the SEQRA process, asking questions, and demanding that the potential impacts of industrial-scale BESS facilities receive serious scrutiny.

And this issue is bigger than one project or one town....

Residents in the Town of Ulster, Town of Hurley & Kingston are confronting 2 large-scale battery storage proposals along the Hurley Avenue corridor.

Our friends in Saugerties are fighting their own battery storage proposal.

Residents in Gardiner are working through how their community should regulate and zone BESS facilities before these decisions are made for them.

Different towns. Different projects. Many of the same concerns.

πŸ”₯ Fire and thermal-runaway risks ☁️ Emergency smoke and gas exposure πŸš’ First-responder availability & preparedness 🏠 Proximity to homes and neighborhoods 🏫 Proximity to schools and vulnerable populations πŸ’§ Water, soil and environmental impacts following an incident πŸ“ Responsible siting and zoning πŸ›οΈ Local control and meaningful public participation

THIS IS A PEACEFUL COMMUNITY PROTEST.

Bring a sign, friend & neighbor. Be there or be square!
